Declutter for the Holiday Season

Declutter for the Holiday Season

The holidays are quickly approaching which means that it is time to get organized and declutter your home. Here are some tips for how you can declutter your house and get ready for the holiday season.

Kitchen and Pantries

  • Reduce everything down to what you really need. Clean out your pantries and check expiration dates on food that has been lingering in your pantry.
  • Clean out kitchen gadgets. The fewer kitchen gadgets you own, the less you need to store when company comes over.
  • Clear off clutter from kitchen counters and find a place for items that have accumulated over the past year.
  • Go through the fridge and freezer and dispose of expired goods.
  • Clean and sanitize high touch areas.

Closets

  • Go through your clothing and donate items you never wear or no longer want.
  • Now is a great time to get rid of old clothes you purchased for past holiday events.
  • Organize your shoes and make sure all clothing items are folded nicely and look presentable.

Toys

  • Organize your children’s playroom and donate any toys they no longer play with. The holidays are approaching which means that new toys may be coming. Organize and get rid of items now to prevent clutter in the future.
  • Ask your kids to help with donating toys and ensure that they know that charity is important, especially during the holidays.

Decorations

  • Sort through your holiday décor and get rid of broken or old decorations.

Dining and Living Rooms

  • Sort through storage pieces and get rid of things you do not need.
  • Clear off the clutter from surfaces.
  • Get rid of old and unused magazines and newspapers.
  • Clean and sanitize high touch areas.

Whenever you are going through and cleaning out your home, it is smart to make two piles: one for donations and one for items you are keeping. This will keep you organized and ensure that you are keeping things as well as donating to those less fortunate
